Friends members are committed to assisting the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in protecting Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area and helping visitors enjoy their visit. With only nine BLM staff assigned to Red Rock Canyon, our members volunteer thousands of hours each year assisting with trash pickup, trail maintenance, leading hikes, maintaining the Visitor Center grounds, staffing the information desk, monitoring cultural sites and sundry other tasks that need accomplished in the 200,000 acre park. In addition, Friends provides over $100,000 a year in funding to purchase equipment, supplies and provide training for staff, volunteers and visitors. back to top |

Another way to support Red Rock is to support the Red Rock Book and Gift Store managed by the Interpretive Association; all proceeds go to support Red Rock in cooperation with FORRC. back to top |

You can support Red Rock Canyon in many ways. To begin with you can become a member of Friends of Red Rock Canyon. Your membership entitles you to receive our monthly newsletter, The Desert Trumpet which provides news as well as feature stories. The newspaper lists activities that could affect the Canyon in a positive or negative manner. By being aware of these issues you can contact elected officials to urge their support for the canyon. You can also support the canyon by making tax exempt donations to Friends of Red Rock Canyon. You may have the donation allocated to specific areas of interest such as trail maintenance, children’s programs, environmental education or any other committee or function. Lastly you can help provide financial support by purchasing items from the Visitor Center gift shop or by purchasing a stone on the Memorial Walkway. Proceeds from both ventures are used by Friends of Red Rock Canyon and Red Rock Canyon Interpretative Association to support Red Rock Canyon. back to top |

You bet we have fun. Members are encouraged to attend quarterly membership meetings where they can meet other members, enjoy a meal and receive updates on Friends activities. This also provides members with an opportunity to meet the organizations officers and Bureau of Land Management staff to ask questions and offer input. Friends members are also encouraged to participate in the many free hikes and programs offered by Friends volunteers, BLM staff and Red Rock Canyon Interpretative Association naturalist. These programs are scheduled daily (plus evening programs) and are listed in our monthly news letter, The Desert Trumpet. Friends’ members also establish networks with other members who enjoy specific interest or outings such as rafting the Colorado River, visiting ghost towns or just enjoying an evening get together. Lastly, our volunteers have fun working within the various committees and support activities. For example if you enjoy meeting and talking to people, volunteering to staff the information desk is an ideal activity. back to top |
